Do you suffer from one of the following?  Have you looked for, but not found help?  Here are a few examples of how we have helped other people with the same complaint.

Fatigue—Fatigue has lots of different causes, many of which are commonly ignored.  To restore your energy it’s necessary to first support a healthy lifestyle and also look for the cause of your fatigue.  It’s a mistake to just try to take something that will give you more energy.  There may indeed be supplements to help, but until the cause is known, which ones are appropriate?  We strive to treat the cause, not the symptoms of fatigue.  Anemia, low adrenal function, infection, inadequate sleep as well as other factors may cause fatigue.  A good history and a few lab tests will often point out the underlying cause and help us treat your specific brand of fatigue.

Muscle Aches and Joint Pain—Like fatigue, muscle and joint pain have many different causes and are best treated by approaching the cause, not the symptoms.  Trauma, mechanical stress from repetitive motion, and autoimmune disorders are all recognized as causes of muscle and joint pain.  The role of food allergy and disease in the GI tract are often overlooked as a cause.  Once we discover the cause of the problem and begin to eliminate it, we also provide nutritional and perhaps herbal support for repair of damage that might have been done.

For over 16 years Dr. Lewis taught courses in hydrotherapy, physiotherapy, soft tissue manipulation, joint manipulation, rheumatology, and orthopedics at Bastyr University.  He brings this experience to the clinic with a very “hands-on” approach to the treatment of patients.

Heartburn or Indigestion—There seems to be a pill sold to treat everything.  Reflux is apparently no exception.  But will those stomach pills disrupt digestion?  Do they fix the problem or do they just mask it?  We have successfully treated many patients with gastro-esophageal reflux disorder using a simple technique to manipulate the stomach.  Just a few treatments and no more pain and no more pills!  On the other hand, sometimes it’s also necessary to make dietary changes and there are several good supplements that can help as well.

Chronic Sinusitis—Sinus infections are rarely something you catch.  More often they’re something you build.  The analogy we like to use is a free flowing stream.  It’s clear and clean as long as it’s free to flow, but dam it up and the water turns sour behind the dam.  There are several different things that can block the nasal passages and the sinuses.  Swelling of the membranes in the nose, thick tenacious mucus that doesn’t drain, and narrow tight passageways can each act as a dam in the nose.  We treat sinusitis by relieving the swelling if it’s present, thinning the mucus so it will drain, or increasing the size of the passageways through cranial manipulation.  Change of diet and/or appropriate supplements and herbs will often help.  Cranial manipulation is a remarkably effective alternative to surgery.  (Ask for our monograph on nasal specific technique.)

Hot Flashes, Irritability, and Menopause—Menopause is a natural stage in a woman’s life cycle.  For some women, this transition in life may pass smoothly.  For other women, menopause can present with debilitating symptoms of hot flashes, irritability and insomnia.  A medical doctor may prescribe hormone replacement therapy (HRT) or antidepressants to treat these symptoms.  Recent data from studies done through the Women’s Health Initiative have revealed the increased risk for breast cancer, heart disease and stroke in women taking conventional HRT.  As for antidepressants, why take these if one is not actually depressed?  We offer a wide range of alternatives to treat menopausal symptoms that include dietary changes, supplements, herbs and natural hormones.
